Thanks to the generosity of sponsors and runners and the hard work of all our organisers, Ras yr Iaith now has £4,000 to give out in grants to promote the Welsh language within the area of the 2014 Ras.
£4,000 to Promote Welsh!
Yes, clubs, societies and associations are invited to apply for individual grants of up to £750 towards promoting the Welsh language. The closing date is 31 January 2015 and the money must be spent by 31 December 2015.
We are looking for applications which will promote Welsh and leave a legacy. The application must be by a society which operates within the area in which the 2014 Ras yr Iaith took place, namely the whole of Ceredigion, Bro Ddyfi (Machynlleth area), and villages along the Teifi river in Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire.
You must fill in the application form as well as submit your society’s constitution and bank statement.
“There were two main reasons for holding Ras yr Iaith. Firstly it was to give a very positive and strong visual manifestation of the support there is for the Welsh language on the streets of our towns and a villages and by doing so also to keep ourselves fitter and healthier. We also wanted to raise enough money so that we could not only hold this iconic event but also give money back and invest in the Welsh language.
We’ve not only succeeded in establishing an independent Welsh institution but we’ve also succeeded in generating £4,000 which we can now give back to promoting the Welsh language. We’re very grateful to all the sponsors and runners for their support and faith in Ras yr Iaith and in the Welsh language,” said Siôn Jobbins, the Ras yr Iaith Chair and also director of Rhedadeg Cyf the not-for-profit company created to administer the event.
